How PDF to JPEG handles data

PDF to JPEG converts PDF pages to JPEG, PNG or WebP, combines images into a PDF, and extracts supported embedded images from PDFs. This policy describes the workspace session, remembered settings and the external services used by the welcome page and feedback links. The extension does not perform OCR or recover unknown passwords.

Files and conversion data

  • The PDFs and images you choose. The workspace retains the selected inputs and the details required to preview, convert and download them during the session. Conversion uses file data in memory and processes pages or images in sequence.
  • The password of a protected PDF. You can supply a password you already know. It is associated with that input row for the workspace session so the PDF can be opened again for conversion. Clear, reload or closing the workspace ends that session. The extension does not recover or guess unknown passwords; a row allows three password attempts.
  • Which pages you asked for. A page range such as 1-5, 8, 12- is retained with the input row during the session and used when that row is converted.
  • The result. Generated files remain available in the workspace session for downloads. The browser saves a single result or a ZIP containing multiple outputs. Clearing the workspace does not delete files already downloaded.

What happens to the information inside a photo

Photos usually carry hidden details written by the camera (EXIF, XMP and IPTC data), which can include the place the picture was taken. EXIF orientation is used locally to display and place photos correctly. EXIF, XMP and IPTC metadata are not copied to the output:

  • Photos into a PDF. JPEG, PNG and WebP inputs are embedded or redrawn without their EXIF, XMP or IPTC metadata. An ordinary JPEG photo is still placed into the PDF without being redrawn, so no image quality is lost; only the hidden metadata segments are left out.
  • PDF pages into images. The images are drawn fresh from the page, so the produced JPEG, PNG and WebP files carry no EXIF, XMP or IPTC metadata (a JPEG still has the ordinary JFIF header and colour profile every viewer expects).

If you need the camera details kept, this extension is not the tool for that: it has no setting to keep them.

Settings we remember

The extension stores the following two groups of values in extension storage so preferences and the rating prompt state can survive a workspace reload.

Your last-used settings, stored under the name pdfImagePrefs, to restore these choices when the workspace is opened again:

  • the last output format;
  • the last DPI preset;
  • the last page size;
  • the last margins;
  • whether the first-run guide has already been shown (guideSeen), a field on the same object, not a new storage key.

Whether we have already asked you to rate the extension, stored under the name pdfImageRatePrompt. It holds up to three timestamps of when the short rating line was shown to you and whether you rated or dismissed it. This controls a limit of three prompts in thirty days and stops the prompt after you answer. The stored state records the answered branch rather than the star count.

The active workspace also retains a conversion queue, results and session history in memory. These are distinct from the two persistent settings keys. Clear removes the queue and history; reloading or closing the workspace ends the session. Change a remembered preference using its control. Removing the extension deletes its extension storage.

External services and links

  • The welcome page you see after installing is part of the extension itself, not a website. It requests one 1x1 pixel image from Yandex Metrica (mc.yandex.ru) to count welcome page visits after installation. The provider receives the network request, including the IP address, browser user agent and request time. Cookies may also be sent or set, depending on browser restrictions and the provider configuration. The pixel is an image, not an analytics script.
  • An optional feedback form on removal. When you remove the extension, Chrome may open a short form in a new tab. Answering is entirely optional. The extension opens a fixed Google Form address. Google hosts the form under its privacy policy and handles the associated network request. The form owner receives submitted answers.
  • A feedback link inside the extension, when one is present and you use it, opens the same kind of Google Form in a new tab, using a fixed address.
  • The rating line, and only if you click a star. A short “Rate us” row can appear under a finished conversion. It opens nothing on its own. One, two or three stars open a private Google Form in a new tab - a different form from the removal one above - so you can say what went wrong. Four or five stars open this extension's own page in the Chrome Web Store, on its reviews tab, so you can leave the review there; while the extension is not listed yet there is no such page, and nothing opens. Both addresses are fixed. Your star choice selects the destination. Opening that destination creates a request to its provider, subject to that provider's policies.

Links to third-party services open pages governed by their respective policies. Submitting a form is a separate action from converting a file.

Legal bases

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we handle data on the basis of your consent and to perform the feature you asked for - your file is read only in order to produce the file you asked for, because that is the conversion you started. You can withdraw consent at any time by stopping the job or removing the extension.

Retention and deletion

  • Your files, their pages and the images drawn from them: the input and its details live in the open workspace tab while it is open. Results and their download URLs live there until you press New file, reload or close the tab. Nothing is written to storage except the two keys named on this page, and nothing is uploaded.
  • The password: it is retained with its input row during the workspace session. Clear, reload or closing the workspace ends that session.
  • Page ranges, file names, page counts: they live with the row in the open tab until you press New file, reload or close the tab. Nothing of them is written to storage.
  • The settings listed above: until you change them or remove the extension.
  • Files you saved: yours, on your own disk, for as long as you keep them.
  • Feedback and external service records: submitted answers and records of visits to the external services have separate retention arrangements. Contact the form owner or the relevant provider for questions about these records.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data:

  • GDPR / UK GDPR: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawing consent, and lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority (such as the ICO).
  • CCPA / CPRA (California): to know, access, delete and correct your data, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share your personal information.

Use the contact form below for questions about data handled through the extension and its feedback forms. Requests about records held by an external service may also need to be directed to that service. Removing the extension does not retract a form submission or a network request that has already occurred.

Counting installations

The welcome page requests a single 1x1 image from Yandex Metrica. This records a welcome page visit, which is used as an installation count; reopening or reloading the page can create another request. The request exposes network data such as IP address and browser user agent to Yandex. Cookie handling depends on browser restrictions and provider configuration. Blocking mc.yandex.ru before opening the welcome page can prevent this request. Closing the page after it loads does not undo a completed request.

Security

The extension package contains the PDF engines, encoder workers, fonts and character maps used by conversion. Its Manifest V3 content security policy restricts script execution. The workspace retains inputs and results for the session, so access to the browser profile and downloaded files remains relevant to their security.

Children

PDF to JPEG is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

What we do not do

  • No accounts, no sign-up, no subscription.
  • No advertising and no ad networks.
  • We do not follow what you do inside the extension and we build no profiles. The one measurement is the install counter on the welcome page, described above.
  • Conversion history is limited to the active workspace session.
  • No access to the websites you visit: the extension has no host permissions and injects nothing into any page.
  • External service requests and submitted feedback are described above.
  • All features in this version are free; this extension does not offer purchases.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this policy

This policy took effect on 3 September 2026. What changed: this revision describes the queue and session history, embedded image extraction, and external service requests more precisely.
