Your files stay on your device

PDF to JPEG converts the pages of a PDF into JPG, PNG or WebP images, and converts images back into a single PDF, on this device. That one conversion job is everything the extension does — it does not recognise text, edit, compress or unlock documents. Your files are processed in your browser and never uploaded: there is no server of ours for them to go to, and there is no account to create.

What stays on your device

  • The PDFs and images you choose. They are read into memory, one page or one image at a time, for the conversion you started. No file bytes, page images or thumbnails are written to browser storage, and nothing is uploaded.
  • The password of a protected PDF. If your PDF is protected, you can type the password you already have so that it can be opened. It lives only in the open workspace tab for that conversion. It is never written to browser storage, never put into a file name, an error message or a log, and never sent anywhere. The extension does not recover, guess or remove a password you do not know; after three wrong attempts you simply get a plain error.
  • Which pages you asked for. A page range such as 1-5, 8, 12- is used for the conversion and is never saved — not even as a last-used value.
  • The result. Your images, or your new PDF, are written straight to your own disk by the browser download — one file, or a ZIP when a job produces several. They do not pass through anything of ours.

What happens to the information inside a photo

Photos usually carry hidden details written by the camera (EXIF, XMP and IPTC data), which can include the place the picture was taken. EXIF orientation is used locally to display and place photos correctly. EXIF, XMP and IPTC metadata are not copied to the output:

  • Photos into a PDF. JPEG, PNG and WebP inputs are embedded or redrawn without their EXIF, XMP or IPTC metadata. An ordinary JPEG photo is still placed into the PDF without being redrawn, so no image quality is lost; only the hidden metadata segments are left out.
  • PDF pages into images. The images are drawn fresh from the page, so the produced JPEG, PNG and WebP files carry no EXIF, XMP or IPTC metadata (a JPEG still has the ordinary JFIF header and colour profile every viewer expects).

If you need the camera details kept, this extension is not the tool for that: it has no setting to keep them.

Settings we remember

The extension keeps two small groups of values in the browser's own extension storage, on this device. Neither of them is personal, neither is ever sent anywhere, and nothing in either of them says anything about your files.

Your last-used settings, stored under the name pdfImagePrefs, so the next conversion is one gesture instead of five:

  • the last output format;
  • the last DPI preset;
  • the last page size;
  • the last margins.

Whether we have already asked you to rate the extension, stored under the name pdfImageRatePrompt. It holds up to three timestamps of when the short rating line was shown to you and, if you answered it, the fact that you rated or dismissed it — which of the two branches, never the star count, and never anything about you, your files or your conversions. It exists for one reason: so the question is asked at most three times in thirty days and never again once you have answered. Nothing about it is sent anywhere, and it makes no request of any kind.

Nothing else is kept: no file contents, no page images, no thumbnails, no page ranges, no file names, no page counts, no passwords, and no history of your conversions. To change a setting, use the control — it overwrites the value it remembers. To delete them all, remove the extension: uninstalling deletes everything it stored.

The only pages this extension opens

  • The welcome page you see after installing is part of the extension itself. It is not a website, it carries no analytics and no counters of any kind, and nothing about your files reaches it.
  • An optional feedback form on removal. When you remove the extension, Chrome may open a short form in a new tab. Answering is entirely optional. The address carries no parameters and nothing from your work — no file names, no page counts, no settings. The form is a Google Form, hosted by Google LLC under Google's own privacy policy; we receive only what you choose to type into it.
  • A feedback link inside the extension, when one is present and you use it, opens the same kind of Google Form in a new tab, again with nothing attached to the address.
  • The rating line, and only if you click a star. A short “Rate us” row can appear under a finished conversion. It opens nothing on its own. One, two or three stars open a private Google Form in a new tab — a different form from the removal one above — so you can say what went wrong. Four or five stars open this extension's own page in the Chrome Web Store, on its reviews tab, so you can leave the review there; while the extension is not listed yet there is no such page, and nothing opens. Both addresses are fixed: your star count chooses which one opens and is never added to it, and no file name, page count or setting travels with either.

Those are the only pages the extension opens, and the only route by which anything can reach anyone other than you.

Legal bases

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we handle data on the basis of your consent and to perform the feature you asked for — your file is read only in order to produce the file you asked for, because that is the conversion you started. You can withdraw consent at any time by stopping the job or removing the extension.

Retention and deletion

  • Your files, their pages and the images drawn from them: the input and its details live in the open workspace tab while it is open. Results and their download URLs live there until you press New file, reload or close the tab. Nothing is written to storage except the two keys named on this page, and nothing is uploaded.
  • The password: it is never written anywhere. It lives only in the open tab for that conversion.
  • Page ranges, file names, page counts: they live with the row in the open tab until you press New file, reload or close the tab. Nothing of them is written to storage.
  • The settings listed above: until you change them or remove the extension.
  • Files you saved: yours, on your own disk, for as long as you keep them.
  • On our side: nothing. We never receive any of it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data:

  • GDPR / UK GDPR: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawing consent, and lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority (such as the ICO).
  • CCPA / CPRA (California): to know, access, delete and correct your data, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share your personal information.

Because everything stays on your own device, you can exercise most of these yourself: your files are in front of you, your settings are the controls you last used, and removing the extension erases everything it stored. Security

Your files are handled inside your browser by the extension's own code, in the same browser process as the page you are looking at. They are not sent to us, and there are no third-party processors: no cloud service, no analytics provider and no error-reporting service receives any part of them. Everything the extension needs to read a PDF and to write images and PDFs is packaged inside the extension itself, so no code, no fonts and no character maps are fetched from the internet while it runs. Your files are protected by your own device and browser profile, the same way the rest of your documents are.

Children

PDF to JPEG is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

What we do not do

  • No accounts, no sign-up, no subscription.
  • No advertising and no ad networks.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no profiles.
  • No history of the files you have converted.
  • No access to the websites you visit: the extension has no host permissions and injects nothing into any page.
  • We do not sell or share your data. We never receive it in the first place.
  • All features in this version are free; this extension does not offer purchases.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes to this policy

This policy takes effect on 3 September 2026. What changed: this is the first published version of this policy, written for the first release of the extension. If it changes, we will update the date at the bottom of this page, and the current version always lives here.
